- Basic X-ray Technician
The UMA Basic X-ray Technician program trains you for entry-level employment in the high-demand Radiologic Technology field. This focused, hands-on course can be completed in under a year. You’ll learn to position patients, operate x-ray equipment, ensure patient safety, explain procedures and more. After completing classroom training and a real-world externship at a local healthcare provider, you’ll receive a diploma and be prepared to take the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services certification exam, which is required for employment. The course is taught to American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) standards to ensure that students have a recognized, marketable education. UMA Basic X-ray graduates typically pursue employment at diagnostic imaging centers, clinics and physicians’ offices. Some opportunities are also available in hospitals and other medical facilities.
- Dental Assistant with Expanded Functions
The UMA Dental Assistant with Expanded Functions program trains you for entry-level employment in the Dental Assistant field, which is expected to grow 36% between 2008 and 2018. This focused, hands-on course can be completed in under a year. You'll learn to prepare patients for treatment, assist the dentist during procedures, take and process X-rays, perform laboratory procedures and assist in day-to-day office management. The program includes expanded functions, such as extended X-ray training, to ensure that students have the skills employers are looking for. After completing classroom training and a real-world externship with a local dentist, you'll receive a diploma and be ready to seek employment in a dental office.
- Medical Assistant
The UMA Medical Assistant program trains you for entry-level employment in the high-demand Medical Assisting field. This focused, hands-on course can be completed in under a year. You'll learn to perform a variety of clinical procedures, such as EKG, CPR, specimen collection and drug administration, and to manage the day-to-day business operations of a medical facility. After completing classroom training and a real-world externship at a local healthcare provider, you'll receive a diploma and be ready to pursue employment in doctors' offices, hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, and other healthcare facilities. Optionally, graduates can sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exams to increase their earning potential and open up more job opportunities.
- Medical Billing and Coding
The UMA Medical Billing and Coding program trains you for entry-level employment in the high-demand Medical Records and Health Information Technician field. President Obama has approved over $19 billion in funding for healthcare technology and electronic medical records, and the field is expected to grow over 20% between 2008 and 2018. In under a year, you can learn how to run practice management software, process insurance claims and medical records, code medical procedures, and assist in the management of a medical practice. After completing your training, you'll be qualified to take the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and seek employment in doctors' offices, hospitals, insurance companies and other healthcare facilities.
- Medical Clinical Lab Assistant
The UMA Medical Clinical Lab Assistant program trains you for entry-level employment in clinical laboratory settings. This focused, hands-on course can be completed in under a year. You'll learn to collect and analyze samples, perform tests in the laboratory, measure and dispense drugs, and assist with patient care and office management. After completing classroom training and a real-world externship at a local healthcare provider, you'll receive a diploma and be ready to pursue jobs in a variety of healthcare facilities.
- Nursing Assistant
Gain the skills to work alongside nurses and doctors in a number of medical establishments. Learn anatomy and physiology, communication and various medical terminologies.
- Patient Care Technician
The UMA Patient Care Technician program trains you for entry-level employment in hospitals, nursing homes, physicians' offices and other healthcare facilities. This focused, hands-on course can be completed in less than a year. You'll learn to operate diagnostic equipment, assist patients with day-to-day activities, administer drugs according to physicians' instructions, collect and analyze samples, manage medical charts and electronic medical records, and more. After completing classroom training and a real-world externship at a local healthcare provider, you'll receive a diploma and be ready to pursue jobs at a variety of healthcare facilities. You'll also be ready to take the state of Florida Certified Nursing Assistant exam and gain a credential that can make you more marketable to employers.
- Pharmacy Technician
The UMA Pharmacy Technician program trains you for entry-level employment in the high-demand Pharmacy Technician field. This focused, hands-on course can be completed in less than a year. You'll learn to manage and fill prescription requests, understand drug dosage and interaction, maintain patient profiles, process insurance claims and more. After completing classroom training and a real-world externship at a local healthcare provider, you'll receive a diploma and be ready to pursue jobs in pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. You'll also be ready to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) national certification exams, which can increase your earning potential and open up more job opportunities.
